Undergraduate School
There are three schools at Tokyo Institute of Technology(Tokyo Tech).: the School of Science (5 departments), the School of Engineering (16 departments), and the School of Bioscience and Biotechnology (2 departments). Students who complete the credits of the courses required by their departments are eligible to graduate and receive a bachelor's degree. Non-Japanese applicants may be admitted to Tokyo Tech via the methods detailed below. Lectures for Undergraduate program admitted at Tokyo Tech are conducted in Japanese. Individuals wishing to enroll as an undergraduate student must acquire sufficient competence in Japanese prior to admission.

Firstly, non-Japanese applicants may undergo the same screening as Japanese applicants by taking the National Center Test for University Admissions and the Tokyo Tech general entrance examination. Secondly, non-Japanese applicants may be admitted as International Students. In order to do so, they must take the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and Tokyo Tech's Special Screening Examination for privately funded International Students.

For applicants who have graduated or are expected to graduate from a college of technology or junior college, an Undergraduate Transfer Entrance Examination is held. This examination comprises two categories, General Screening and Special Screening; transfer is possible in the 2nd or 3rd year of the School of Science and in the 3rd year of the Schools of Engineering and of Bioscience and Biotechnology.

Entrance examinations are also held prior to students coming to Japan for Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; hereafter referred to as MEXT) Scholarship (Undergraduate) Students who have been recommended as candidates for undertaking undergraduate studies at a Japanese university by the Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country, Japan-Korea Joint Exchange Program in Science and Engineering Students, and Foreign Government-sponsored International Students.

Japan-Korea Joint Exchange Program in Science and Engineering
Based on the Japan-Republic of Korea Joint Declaration issued in October 1998, this program aims to enable Korean students who will be leaders of the next generation to acquire cutting-edge technological skills and knowledge by studying at science and technology universities in Japan, as well as deepening mutual understanding between Japan and Korea through international student exchange.

Applicants are selected from amongst students recommended by their high schools in Korea in a 1st screening administered by the Korean Government. These applicants then taken an examination administered by the Japanese Government, and successful applicants are then assigned to appropriate Japanese universities. Successful applicants undergo preparatory education in Japanese, specialized subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry), and English for 6 months from March in Korea before their arrival in Japan in October, after which they undergo further preparatory education in Japanese and specialized subjects at the International Student Center at their assigned university. Students then sit for the entrance examinations administered by universities specified by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and are admitted to the university concerned if they pass the entrance examination.

The National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) in Korea administers all procedures from recruitment to screening. Please contact the NIIED for schedules and other information.
