Graduate School
Tokyo Tech has 6 graduate schools: the Graduate School of Science and Engineering
(20 departments), the Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology (5
departments), the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering
(11 departments), the Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering
(3 departments), the Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology
(4 departments), and the Graduate School of Innovation Management (2 departments).
Each of the graduate schools offers Master's and Doctoral programs, and
students who complete the credits of the courses required by their departments,
submit a Master's or Doctoral thesis, and pass the thesis examination and
final examination are eligible to receive a Master's or Doctoral degree.
In general, the Master's program is two years and the Doctoral program
is three years. Tokyo Tech also has an International Graduate Program that
enables students to earn a Master's or Doctoral degree in English. Please
note that application, examination and admission procedures differ for
each program.
Individuals wishing to study at Tokyo Tech should obtain information on the application and admission process. Applicants must also contact the academic advisor before applying.
Master's Program
Admissions are in April and October; students successfully completing the program will be granted a Master's Degree. Students achieving particularly outstanding results may complete the program in less time than the standard period required (2 years). Lectures for Master's program offered at Tokyo Tech, with the exception of the International Graduate Program, are conducted in Japanese. Individuals wishing to enroll as a regular student must acquire sufficient competence in Japanese prior to admission.

- 2. Application Qualifications

- Application Qualifications for Master's Program (Those seeking October admission should read "March 31" as "September 30")
- Applicants who satisfy one of the following conditions are eligible to apply:
- (1) Individuals who have graduated or will graduate from a university or
college by March 31 of the year of admission.
- (2) Individuals who have successfully completed a 16-year school education
abroad or are expected to do so by March 31 of the year of admission.
- (3) Individuals from a foreign country in which the completion of college level education does not require 16 years of school education or equivalent who satisfy the following two conditions and who are recognized by Tokyo Tech Graduate School as having equal to or higher academic ability than graduates of a Japanese university.
- a. Individuals who, after successfully obtaining a bachelor's degree, have spent one year or more as a research student or research fellow at a university or research institution or at an inter-university research institute or equivalent research institution, either, in Japan or abroad, or who are expected to do so by the end of March 31 of the year of admission.
- b. Individuals who will be 22 years of age on or before March 31 of the year of admission.

those being admitted in April should carry out the procedures in March.

Doctoral Program

- Applicants who satisfy one of the following conditions are eligible to apply:
- (1) Individuals who have obtained a Master's degree or any other professional degree or who are expected to do so on or before March 31 of the year of admission.
- (2) Individuals who have successfully obtained a degree equivalent to a Master's degree or any other professional degree at a university or college abroad or who are expected to do so on or before March 31 of the year of admission.
- (3) Individuals who are recognized by Tokyo Tech Graduate School as having academic ability equal to or higher than a Master's degree or a professional degree holder by means of application qualification screening and will be 24 years of age on or before March 31 of the year of admission.
