Exemptions from Admission Fee and Tuition

Exemption From Admission Fee

When one of the conditions in "Requirements" is applicable, half of the admission fee can be exempted or its payment can be postponed upon request. Students who wish for exemption of the admission fee or postponement of its payment should submit an application by following the procedure described below. Please note that applications for exemption/postponement of 'the admission fee' and 'the tuition' must be made separately.

Requirements for Graduates (Master's or Doctoral)

  1. A student who is unable to pay the admission fee due to financial difficulties but are proven to have outstading academis performance.
  2. A student who is unable to pay the admission fee due to the death of his/her financial provider, or due to the damage caused by a natural disaster from which a student or his/her financial provider is suffering, which took place within a year prior to the admission.

Requirement for Undergraduates

  1. A student who is unable to pay the admission fee due to the death of his/her financial provider, or due to the damage caused by a natural disaster from which a student or his/her financial provider is suffering, which took place within a year prior to the admission.

Application Periods and Hours

  • On the day and hours specified for the admission procedures for new students in April and October.
  • Application documents for exemptions will be enclosed in the envelope for the admisson procedures.

Postponement of the Admission Fee Payment

 "Application for Postponement of the Admission Fee Payment"(Attached Form No.3) and necessary documents should be submitted if a student wish for only postponement of the admission fee payment. Application conditions are the same as the above-mentioned exemption from admission fee. The deadline of payment is by the end of July for 1st semester, or the end of January for 2nd semester, if approved.

Exemption From Tuition

When one of the conditions in requirements below is applicable, the full or half amount of the tuition can be exempted or its payment can be postponed upon request. Students who wish for exemption or postponement of the tuition should submit an application by following the procedure described below.

  1. A student who is unable to pay the tuition due to financial difficulties but are proven to have outstanding academic performance.
  2. A student who is unable to pay the tuition due to the death of his/her financial provider, or due to the damage caused by a natural disaster from which a student or his/her financial provider is suffering, which took place within six months (a year for new students) to the application.

Postponement of the Tuition Payment

 "Postponement of the Tution Payment"(Attached Form No.6) and documents required should be submitted if a student wish for only postponement of the tuition payment. Application conditions are the same as the above-mentioned exemption of tuition. The deadline of payment is by the end of July for spring semester, or the end of January for autumn semester, if approved.

※Applicants who are unable to come on these days should prepare their documents beforehand and consult the office.

 ※For doctoral course students who started in April, 2008 or later, the application for tuition exemption for the spring semester is used to review his/her eligibility for the whole academic year. The applications for the fall semester will not be accepted. Doctoral course students who wish to be exempted must apply for spring semester 2012. New students in October 2012 can apply when he/she will enroll to Tokyo Tech.

Documents Required

Necessary documents differ from each applicant.
Please read the brochure carefully; fill out the applicaiton form and gather necessary documents to avoid resubmission or rejection due to an incomplete form, missing signature, inadeqate documents, etc.

Evaluation

  Tokyo Tech will evaluate applicants' economical circumstances comprehensively according to our regulations.

Result of Application

The results of exemptions will be annoucned on the bulletin board, and notified to each applicant in late-June for the spring semester and early December for the autumn semester.

  • If you have applied, please do not make a payment until you have been notified of the decision.
  • After having received the result of your application, your tuition has to be paid immediately or otherwise specified differently in the notification that you received, if your application is disapproved or approved for exemption of half the amount.
